Modernising My Health Record: Improved sharing of pathology and diagnostic imaging information

The Department of Health and Aged Care and the Australian Digital Health Agency are making changes so Australians will have better and faster access to pathology and diagnostic imaging reports in My Health Record. This will empower patients to participate in their healthcare and make it easier for healthcare providers to coordinate care and make clinical decisions.

The changes aim to give patients and their healthcare providers better access to key health information, when it is needed, to help:

• empower patients to participate in their own healthcare
• make it easier for healthcare providers to coordinate care and access information
• support healthcare providers to make better clinical decisions that can:
  • reduce avoidable adverse outcomes, hospital admissions and duplicate tests
  • increase use of evidence-based appropriate treatments and interventions.

Progress so far

The Department of Health and Aged Care ran a consultation process from 8 September to 31 October 2023.

The Australian Digital Health Agency have established a Clinical Reference Group to provide strategic advice and clinical oversight for this initiative.

Outcome 2: Person-centred

These changes relate to Outcome 2: Person-centred of the National Digital Health Strategy which will empower Australians to look after their health and wellbeing, equipped with the right information and tools.
