More compliant software products needed to help create better-connected and continuous care for older Australians

Published 1 August 2023

To support the adoption of digital health tools in the aged care sector, the Australian Digital Health Agency is launching another phase of the Aged Care Industry Offer. This second offer is targeting Clinical Information and Electronic Medication Management System software developers, aiming to increase the number of compliant products capable of connecting with My Health Record.

This industry offer introduces the capability for software products to support the upload of the new Aged Care Transfer Summary document. This is in direct response to recommendations 66 and 68 from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. By facilitating the digital capture of residents' key health information, the Aged Care Transfer Summary will streamline the sharing of information when a resident transfers to an acute care setting, such as a hospital.

All software developers specialising in Clinical Information and Electronic Medication Management Systems for the aged care sector are encouraged to apply for this industry offer. Those who were successful in the first offer will only need to respond to the Request for Tender (RFT) requirements for developing the Aged Care Transfer Summary, while others will have to address all other requirements.

Since the initial release of the Aged Care Industry Offer in October 2021, the Agency has seen considerable progress in the evolution of My Health Record, with more Australians, healthcare and service providers increasingly connected and viewing information.

"The Aged Care Industry Offer marks another crucial step towards better exchange of information between residential aged care facilities and other healthcare providers and progress towards a more connected healthcare ecosystem that delivers better, more continuous care for older Australians," said Agency CEO, Amanda Cattermole PSM.

“As the sector moves towards a digital future, I encourage software providers who are wanting to make a difference in aged care to register now.”

The industry offer opened for applications on Monday 31 July 2023 via AusTender.
